How To Buy A Home

Via Raine Spivey (RE/MAX Legacy):

Most Buyers, when they are ready to buy a house, are very excited.  However, as a buyer, you must learn "buying etiquette" in order to make the process of finding your next home alot easier on you, and your Realtor.

Almost all buyers think finding the house is the biggest deal in the process.  Understand that finding the house is really just a portion of what else needs to be done in the homebuying process.  There is still plenty of work to be done, and so, knowing where you want to be make the difference.

Buyer handbookHere are a few Tips to get you started on narrowing down your search area:

1) You MUST have an idea as to what side of town you would like to live.  And if you have no clue, you really need to do homework.  Wanting to look at every house in the MLS is not a good idea.  You will become overwhelmed at some point, and will then become confused.  Which will turn to frustration, and them ultimately very stressful.

2) A great place to start is to research the schools in the area and see if the homes in that particular school district is in your price range.  This is a good starting point!

3) If you don't have any kids and schools are not that important to you, then I would suggest finding an attraction that is appealing to you.  For example, do you want to live near a particular mall, church, park, gym? etc.

4) Think "Re-Sale."  Meaning, when you are ready to sell your home, can you perceive something about the house, or area, that will attract a buyer to buy your house in the least amount of time?  Does it have a garage? A fireplace? a Home Owners Association that keeps the neighborhood looking attractive to visitors?

These are just a few tips to get you thinking along the correct line of thinking when buying your home.
